Trump just now:I had a very productive call with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel, and there will be no Troops going to Beirut, and any Troops that are on their way, have already been turned back. Likewise, through highly placed Representatives, I had a very good call with Hezbollah, and they agreed that all shooting will stop — That Israel will not attack them, and they will not attack Israel. President DONALD J. TRUMPThis is a good sign and it's led to a further bounce in risk assets. Trump added to that by denying earlier reports that talks were halted:Talks are continuing, at a rapid pace, with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Thank you for your attention to this matter! Throughout the day, there are all kinds of talks about Israel plotting to strike Beirut. One report said Israel pitched the idea to Trump as a way to get leverage with Iran.Separately, there are some positive comments on negotiations. Asharq News reports that US officials have been informed, through official Lebanese diplomatic channels, that Hezbollah has accepted the US proposal and is prepared to commit to refraining from targeting Israel, in exchange for a reciprocal commitment not to target Beirut’s southern suburbs. The report says these developments are expected to be discussed tomorrow and the following day during the direct negotiation meetings in Washington.Further, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority reports that Washington earlier halted an Israeli strike on a Beirut suburb Trump in his comments to CNBC said that he would speak with Netanyahu today. Israeli media reports that phone call between Trump and Netanyahu was ongoing for more than an hour before the latest post from Trump.Trump in those CNBC comments was evasive and tough to pin down. I still think the telling headlines at the bottom of markets in the Iran war was a report that Trump was 'bored' with the war and today's comments underscore that. He sounded resigned to the mess that he had made for himself and like he was waiting for some kind of face-saving opening. This article was written by Adam Button at investinglive.com.
